About Tolomato

Eight-Episode Prestige Historical Drama
Inspired by Stephen Vincent Benét’s novel Spanish Bayonet Adapted by Keith Stern

Logline
In 1770s British Florida, a young New York merchant heir arrives at a thriving colonial plantation and discovers a world built on deception, cruelty, forbidden ambitions, and hidden loyalties. As revolution brews across America, he is drawn into a struggle that will force him to choose between wealth, love, family, and freedom.
Series Overview
Tolomato is an epic historical drama combining the emotional sweep of Poldark, the political intrigue of The Gilded Age, and the moral complexity of Deadwood. Set against the previously unexplored backdrop of British East Florida on the eve of the American Revolution, the series examines the birth of America through the collision of social classes, cultures, and competing visions of power.
The story follows Andrew Beard, a privileged New York merchant’s son sent south on business. What begins as a coming-of-age journey becomes a descent into a gothic colonial nightmare governed by the charismatic and sinister Dr. Lucius Gentian.
At its heart, the series explores:
— The invention of American identity
— Class and social mobility
— Colonial exploitation
— The corrupting nature of power
— Freedom versus servitude
— Love, betrayal, and reinvention
Through Andrew’s eyes, audiences experience a forgotten America populated by Menorcan indentured laborers, plantation aristocrats, loyalists, rebels, soldiers, smugglers, visionaries, and outcasts.
